- Duration: 7 Hours
- Location: Antigua
This active stratovolcano, standing at an elevation of approximately 2,552 meters (8,373 feet), is situated within the Pacaya National Park, just a short distance from the city of Antigua.
As you start ascending the volcano, you'll find yourself surrounded by lush vegetation, including tropical forests and volcanic landscapes. The hike typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the volcano's summit, depending on your pace and fitness level.
Once you reach the summit, you'll witness the incredible power and beauty of Pacaya Volcano. You'll be able to see the active volcanic crater, where you may even spot steam and smoke rising from the depths. The view from the top offers panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscapes, including other nearby volcanoes.
One of the highlights of the Pacaya day hike is the opportunity to walk on the hardened lava fields. The volcano has had numerous eruptions over the years, leaving behind lava flows and hardened rocks. You can carefully traverse the volcanic terrain, feeling the heat radiating from the ground and observing the various formations created by the lava.
The volcanic heat provides an excellent opportunity for roasted treats right on the volcano. Remember to follow your guide's instructions and exercise caution while handling the lava rocks.
